An alchemic moment to get your skin in order in Melbourne
Autumn in Melbourne, where the leaves of the trees along the roads begin to change color. The time has come for the skin to quietly change as well. As the seasons change, especially from autumn to winter, careful skin care becomes more important, so I visited the GROWN ALCHEMIST Retail Lab.
Located near the Royal Exhibition Building and Carlton Gardens, it is tucked away in an exposed brick building, exuding a tranquil atmosphere that you might miss if you were just passing by.
An evolved natural product that combines "nature" and "science"
GROWN ALCHEMIST is a skincare brand that was launched in Melbourne in 2008. It is characterized by a concept that could be described as "evolved natural," fusing biotechnology such as fermentation, plant cell culture, and enzymes to bring out the blessings of nature with cutting-edge technology.
This brand goes beyond the boundaries of natural cosmetics and targets the skin's own regenerative powers. It currently has stores in London, Hong Kong, and more, and is available in over 40 countries around the world.
Unfortunately, it hasn't arrived in Japan yet, but that's what makes this experience so special now that I'm in Melbourne.
Laboratory silence and a beaker of tea
Upon entering the store, natural light pours in softly from the skylight into an inorganic space where stainless steel and concrete blend together. The products are neatly lined up on stainless steel stools, looking as beautiful as laboratory equipment.
When I told the staff my name, they brought me a small beaker of herbal tea. The playfulness and delicious flavor of the tea made me quickly develop a sense of trust in this space.
REGENERATING FACIAL BOOKING
I booked the "REGENERATING FACIAL" (approximately 1 hour, $190) , which is specialized in anti-aging care among the five facial courses. This course promotes the production of collagen and elastin, leading to firmer and more elastic skin.
In the pre-consultation, I was asked carefully about my allergies, skin concerns, massage pressure, etc. I told them that I was concerned about signs such as dryness around my eyes, age spots, and nasolabial folds.
A refined touch that reaches deep into the skin
The treatment room was in a separate building at the back of the lab. All the rooms were private, and I was shown to the room at the very back. There was a single bed against inorganic silver walls. It was a refined space that made beautiful use of the white space.
The treatment started with cleansing, followed by a gentle exfoliation with a fine scrub, followed by a moisturizing mask and finally a hand massage.
With a firm pressure, she gently massaged the stiffness in my cheeks and bite area, and then used a cold roller and cupping to stimulate lymph flow. Compared to Japanese beauty salons, it felt like she was reaching deeper into my skin, and it felt so good, like my skin was waking up from the inside.
I received thorough care of my décolleté, shoulders, arms, and even the palms of my hands, and I could really feel the circulation improving throughout my body.
